It was approximately 5 pm on a Friday evening when my phone alerted me with a notification. The message said, “Yo bro, are you going to go see JOYWAVE this Saturday at RIT?” I could not believe what I saw...I’ve waited 4 years to see this happen...the day JOYWAVE performed at RIT.
I arrived at the venue thirty minutes before doors to pick up my media pass. The atmosphere was beyond surreal. It got closer to the showtime and I made my way up to the front of the stage, lining up behind the whole entire sets are these old-school monitors on a podium. The monitor lights began flickering as the room lights dimmed down, Daniel Armbuster (the lead singer) walked across the stage as RIT crowd went wild. “Daniel, I love you!” a student shouted amidst the crowd.
Joywave started off the show with their first single off their latest album Content an eerie mysterious sound with a low beat leading up to an epic opening. The bass crashed down and the light went INSANE, the monitor started playing all sorts of visuals that coincided with the music morphing the show into a dreamlike experience. The boys brought down the house with their crazy energy! Looking back to the drums I realized Paul Brenner was rocking out headbanging along to the rhythm. I looked over to the opposite side and saw an RIT student having an amazing time supporting their local favorite musicians.
Daniel sent off the show with an amazing vibe reminding students to always be motivated and to push yourself he said, “All I see in front of me tonight are an amazing, talented group of people,” in his speech inspiring students to do good things and to help build a tight-knit community in this small but impressive town!
